First First Friday, 2009

Ben Woodward stopped by our shop recently and combed through a LOT of our posters from the past 5 years. He managed to dig out several favorites and a bunch that we'd honestly kind of forgotten about. Anyways, he's hanging them up all over the Art In The Age store for the month of January, so if you're curious go and take a look. Me and Joel and possibly even Don Vincent Ortega are gonna stop by there this Friday night the 2nd if you, like, want an autograph or something.

E-Z Riderz

Magick Outlaw part-time assistant Don Vincent Ortega printed up a series of posters of photos he collected this year of his friends hanging out with their bikes. They came out real nice. I think he said something about hanging them up at the Barbary, so if you're dancing take a quick long look.

New Prints in the Store

We just added a few prints to the store. If your geocentric views don't center in Philadelphia, they may not be for you...although if they do, then they most certainly are. Rodney Binnion's Keystone Map Company offers a newly revised version of their classic Philadelphia neighborhood map along with a brand new Pennsylvania County one, as well as our King's Highway nod to the route up to our Port Richmond shop.

Pre 9-11

I found the last three remaining copies of this print in my closet this afternoon. I believe there were somewhere around 90-100 prints created and pasted up throughout Philadelphia in late August of 2000. Designed at Kinkos for RE Load and screen printed at Space 1026. Eight colors on newsprint, 24" x 36".

Epic Philly Give-Away

Super-bloggers M.I.S.S. just put up a sweet give-away for the ladies (or the lady in your life) featuring your favorite Philly brands like us, R.E.Load, Fabric Horse & Fleathers. I guess there's probably no such thing as a bad give-away, but I happen to think this deal's especially good. Check it out heeeere...you only got 2 weeks to enter.

Anonymous Fury Cameo, Reprise

Just can't get enough of this dude and his anonymous fury shirt. Fortunately Annette is a regular reader of OK! Weekly and passed along this issue to us. As far as I can tell, this basically proves two points. From the one hand, if you're gonna rehab your public image and make a statement that you're outta kooky-town and back in cool-ville, stop one is to find someone wearing a Magick Outlaw shirt, stand next to them, and make sure the cameras start flyin. On the other side, if for whatever reason your career path in the entertainment world stumbles into a photo-op with Britney, you better believe you've gotta pull on that favorite shirt that makes you look your ultra-coolest. Concensus: Magick Outlaw wins twice. Thanks!

Space Rider Cameo

Sweet surprise to notice Tegan or Sara of Tegan And Sara hiding our Space Rider shirt behind their knees in one of their recent promo shots. I have to admit I didn't know much about them, but I checked them out and I'm happy to say that they are 100% awesome. And great experts of the graphic tee. My new favorite song is this one which is featuring a Blood is the New Black/Milano Chow shirt. Totally good.

Leather Rebels

So I'm gonna assume that if you're reading this, you're probably familiar with concepts such as "total synchronicity" and "complete tandemonium". In that spirit, we've been combining efforts with Linda Smyth, electric engineer behind the Fleathers label of jewelry, to take her next-level earrings to the next next-level. While Linda ought to receive the bulk of the credit for the finished product, we've been having a pretty good time behind the scenes adding our patterns and dreamscapes to the leather she uses for her epic creations. With the outcome resembling something like a visual blitz combining jungle shocks, downtown glamour, and secret midnight whispers, we're pretty enchanted by the results. We're doubly pleased several times over that we've just recently packed up many pairs and shipped them to a handful of stores such as Sirens & Sailors in L.A., Belle et Rebelle and Off The Hook in Montreal, The Wasteland in San Francisco, Bzar in Tokyo, as well as homebase outposts Grasshopper and Topstitch in Philadelphia. If you happen to be located near any of these, I bet you can figure out what I might recommend you to do. And of course if you're not, you oughtta latch into the Fleather Myspace Arena and check out what's going on there at any time you please.

Hot Dog City Records Creates "User-Friendly" Information Hub, Denies Best Buy Of Exclusivity Agreement

So after braving the rainy midnight cold and lines that weaved and wrapped through several downtown blocks I finally got my copy of the new Guns 'n Roses album that I've been waiting to get for 15 years! And by that I mean I went to the record store this weekend only to learn that if I really wanted to buy the album I'd have to go hop on some network of bus routes to get far enough out of the city to find a Best Buy. What The Bumblefoot. Anyways, at least that explains why there weren't any lines. Wisely figuring out at this point that copies will undoubtedly be sold out until after the holidays at the earliest, I gave up immediately. Well, while I might be one to reminisce on the way things used to be for the music fans, fortunately Ron Cortez of Hot Dog City Records is the kind of tech pioneer who not only embraces our new millenium but warps it into a manageable format. Using existing parameters developed by computer scientists, Ron and HDC have built an entire network strictly for the use of dispatching and disseminating information and communications relevant to HDC. Speaking of relevance, the above picture is art by Roy Lichtenstein. Which I'm sure you already knew.

Collabra-cadabra pt. 3

oooh yeah. lookit me making a creepy appearance on the Fabric Horse web-site this morning in the interest of promoting the new Magick Outlaw/Fabric Horse 59er fanny jawns. Seriously, it's unlikely that there exists a more special fanny-pack/hip-pouch/bum-bag/ waist-wrangler anywhere else in the world, ever, so far. I could go on and on about the electrifying combination of printed denim, colorful velcro, greasy waxed canvas, recycled car seat-belts & wine-red stitching, but you should really just check out fabrichorse.com for lotsa more pictures. Or just go for it and order one for your own benefit. Level vibes, world.

Thom Lessner: "I only listen to the guitar chops post '1984'"

Hey, I understand the David Lee Roth vs. Sammy Hagar debate ceased to be much of a hot-button issue (or really any argument at all) at some point around 3 minutes after releasing 5150, but having recently added the aforementioned album as well as OU812 to the Heavy Metal Indoor Soccer Night play-list was a timeless reminder of how booooorrring Van Hagar is/was. On a brighter note though, googlin' "Fuk Hagar" brought to my attention that Thom Lessner, North America's foremost illustrator of metal lords, marginal baseball players, Roger Troutman, and the little gem above, has got his own flickr gallery that is certain to enrich your life.
